Medical Coding and Billing Specialist are employed by hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), mental health care facilities, insurance companies, consulting firms, health data organizations and information system vendors. As an Insurance Coding & Billing Specialist, you play an integral role in your employer's office. You help make it possible for your employer to collect monetary reimbursements from patient insurance providers. Medical insurance billing/coding and its related occupations are among the fastest growing opportunities in the healthcare industry.

Our online Medical Coding Specialist Program prepares you to be entry-level paraprofessionals in medical offices and associated medical facilities. You will learn the basic concepts and procedures to perform the tasks involved in health insurance as well as insurance claim forms. You will also gain knowledge of basic coding definitions and how to apply those codes to medical documentation.

Our program is separated into learning units called modules. You must complete the modules in their entirety to successfully complete this curriculum. Classes are available 24 hours a day. Students can complete the Medical Coding Specialist Program within 9 months.

Upon completion of this course in Medical Coding Specialist, students will have taken a variety of courses related to the healthcare field. Courses include Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Medical Office Procedures, Medical Computer Applications, Medical Insurance Principals and ICD-9-CM & CPT Coding.

The learning modules of the Medical Coding Specialist Program encompasses lecture, threaded discussion, live chats, electronic video library, interactive activities, assignments, examinations and final.

The following areas will be covered:

  • Medical insurance
  • Claims processing/collection strategies
  • Current procedural coding
  • Diagnostic coding

After successful completion of the program student will be awarded a diploma. Students who successfully complete the requirements of the Medical Coding Specialist Program will be eligible to take the following national exams: 

 

Certified Coding Associate (CCA) - AHIMA


 

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - AHIMA

 

 

Certified Coding Specialist- Physician based (CCS- P) - AHIMA

 

 

Nationally Registered title of Certified Coding Specialist (NRCCS)

National Certified Insurance & Coding Specialist (NCICS)

National Certified Medical Office Assistant (NCMOA)
